Education and Programming

In line with our concerns for education and prevention, the Counseling Center staff is available to the campus community for educational programming-in the residence halls, in the classroom, and as guests of various campus organizations and groups. Referral recommendations can also be made with respect to off-campus speakers who may have expertise in a particular area.

Possible Topics – Ask us about a subject of interest to you, or consider these frequently-requested topics:

Perfectionism. A Christian perspective on the dangers and pitfalls of expecting too much of ourselves and others, and attempting to live beyond the real limitations of our humanity.

Eating Disorders. Helps students identify signs of eating disorders in themselves or others. Includes help with how to confront or talk to someone you believe may have an eating disorder.

What’s the Deal with Dating? Perspectives on campus range from completely "kissing dating good-bye" to "if you can’t find a mate at a Christian college, you’ll never find one at all". We discuss the Wheaton dating culture, and offer a few of our own thoughts on how to improve your male-female relational life (and why addressing this part of your life is important).

Sexual Behavior. A discussion of healthy and unhealthy ways of expressing the sexual part of our identity. Acknowledges the tension of students’ lives—on the one hand students are in a developmental stage of learning to own and become comfortable with their sexual selves; on the other hand, as young Christian adults, they are in a stage of having to learn to manage and discipline the behaviors that go along with this developing part of themselves.

Addictions. A broad look at the topic of addictions defined as "any compulsive or habitual behavior that limits the freedom of human desire." A look at the attachments of our lives that usurp our calling to pursue love of God, love of neighbor and love of self.
