Practicum Program

Practicum positions are available during each academic year for four students currently enrolled in the Doctor of Psychology program at Wheaton College. Students should have an interest in both short-term and long-term counseling, and display a willingness to be flexible in terms of treatment approach. Short-term approaches are emphasized by necessity, as practicum students are limited to a maximum of 8 months interaction with any particular client. A comprehensive program of supervision is provided, along with extensive exposure to a variety of client issues. Each student will also have the opportunity to conduct 1 -2 test batteries, if desired.

Supervision Program
Supervision for practicum students is provided by Dr. Kristen McKnight, a licensed clinical psychologist who is also on staff at New Life Clinic in Wheaton. Dr. Doug DeMerchant, the Director of the Counseling Center, supports and assists in supervision as needed. Weekly supervision consists of one hour individual and 1.25 hours group supervision. Sessions can be audiotaped or videotaped; some videotaping of sessions is required.
