Music and Ministry in the Great Cities of Europe
The Mission - Our Vision and Our Calling
In partnership with local churches and mission agencies, Music and Ministry in the Great Cities of Europe (MMGCE) will afford Wheaton College choral ensemble members the opportunity to actively share their faith through musical performances.
Expressing gifts globally for the glory of God

Chhoir at Grace Church, Vienna MMGCE begins in London, England on Tuesday, May 9, 2006. These cities offer many opportunities for cultural enrichment, as well as Christian witness, support and service to local churches, seminaries, orphanages and other mission agencies. Students should anticipate numerous opportunities to witness to their faith in Jesus Christ. Members of the Concert Choir, Men’s Glee Club and Women’s Chorale will perform in and around London, Paris, Moscow, Vienna and Murska Sobota, Slovenia. The experience in each city will culminate with Sunday worship. Repertoire will include selections from the combined repertoire of the choral ensembles along with new music for the tour. Past members of the ensembles may be eligible for participation as space allows.

Purposes of Ministry

  1. To declare God's glory among the nations (Psalm 96:3) through music and other forms of witness.
  2. To be ambassadors and reconciling agents for Christ everywhere we go (II Corinthians 5:19-20); and to go about doing good, being prepared to preach the word in season and out of season (Acts 10:38, II Corinthians 5:19b-20, II Timothy 4:1-2).
  3. To encourage and support local Christians in their outreach efforts (Romans 15:4-6, II Corinthians 7:14).
  4. To devote ourselves to prayer for and with those whom we serve (Colossians 4:2-6).
Scripture References for MMGCE
Bible
  • Psalm 96:1-3
Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

  • Acts 10:34-43
Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right. You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached- how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. "We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a tree, 40but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen-by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name."

  • Romans 15:4-6
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • 2 Corinthians 5:19b-20
And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.

  • Colossian 4:2-6
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

  • 2 Timothy 4:1-5
In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage-with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
