Congratulations! You are a college graduate.
You are about to embark on a completely new adventure. Our Life After College events are designed to help you navigate the new experiences you will encounter once you leave Wheaton College.
Etiquette Dinner – An Evening in February
Join Dr. and Mrs. Gieser, Wheaton College’s Chairman of the Board and his wife, as they share their experiences on social interaction in a professional context. Business dinners. Fundraising galas. Recruiting lunches. Navigating these social interactions will be an important component of your career. What to wear. Shaking hands. When to put your napkin in your lap. These and more topics will be covered while you enjoy a delicious multi-course meal. Look for more information in January to sign up.
Understanding Human Resources – Tuesday, March 17, 2015 @ 7pm – Admissions Conference Room
Even before you begin that first job you’ll have some decisions to make with regard to human resources. Deciphering your offer letter is often the first introduction you’ll have to the complexities of human resources. The Career Development Center is ready to help educate you on those decisions, the acronyms you’ll encounter, and the myriad of forms you’ll be asked to complete. Join Joann Beck, Benefits Manager at Wheaton College, for an exploration of the details you’ll encounter during your interactions with human resources.
Budgeting – Tuesday, March 24, 2015 @ 7pm – Phelps Room
Whether you are starting your first full-time job or headed to graduate school, it’s time to create a budget that allows you to manage your own expenses. We’ll explore some real life budget issues and identify those financial items you will need to consider as you begin this next phase of life. Eric Pierce, Managing Director of St. Charles Consulting Group and a former tax attorney, will be on hand to guide you through the process of creating your very own budget.
Advice from Alumni – Tuesday, April 7, 2015 @ 7pm – Phelps Room
Join recent alumni from the Chicagoland area as they share their experiences after Wheaton College. From finding an apartment or a new church to what to do about lunch on your first day of work, they will offer their insight about some of the challenges they faced as they left the familiarity of family and Wheaton. No question is off limits, so bring all your concerns and learn from those who went before you.
Whether you’re looking for a job or internship or need to know what to do after a job offer, we hope to provide more answers through our How-To Guides as well.
