"Will
Affluence Kill Our Commitment?
Following Jesus in a Materialistic
World"
Wednesday, December 8, 7:00 to 8:15
Todd M. Beamer Student Center (South Party Room)
To be a
follower of Jesus we are called to be 'salt' and 'light' in the world.
But, how do we accomplish this in a culture of affluence? Does this
mean we give up material possessions and meet only our basic needs?
Then, how do meet these needs? Do we live in community with other Christians,
producing everything within the community to live and/or relying on
the faithful provision of our Christian brothers and sisters? Some Christians
chose this way of life, others provide adequate financial resources
to meet their needs through vocations that one might label "morally
acceptable"-pastoral ministry, teaching, directing a non-profit social
justice organization. Others pursue vocations that result in abundant
material success and make deliberate decisions to be faithful stewards
of their financial wealth and, perhaps, become missionaries among the
wealthy, or dedicated providers for missionaries and non-profit organizations.
Our panelists will present a variety of viewpoints and thoughts addressing
the various choices we make as Christians to faithfully honor our commitment
to follow Jesus.
