CACE Events 2003 - 2004

“Moral Judgment and Decision-Making in a Corporate Society,” are words that many in today's world have pondered recently. Questions arise about accountability and judgment in the collapse of industry giants, such as Enron and WorldCom. Questions arise about management styles and fiscal responsibility to community as well as shareholders. Amidst all the questions and analysis, one fact remains: our society is corporate, whether a person works within a corporation, relies on corporate investments, or lives in a community that relies solely on a specific corporation. Everyone is affected by the corporate society, making the nature of judgment and decision-making within this context relevant to everyone.

All-Campus Forum
On Becoming Authentic: What is the role of confession?
7:00-8:15 P.M. Blanchard Hall, Room 339
Free and open to the public.

We try to be honest with one another because we know that honesty builds trust and enables intimacy. Without honesty, we risk hypocrisy and superficiality – hoping that others see us for what we want to be and not what we are. How do we break through the image and get real with one another?

This forum will explore the confession of sins as a means for becoming real within our communities. What is confession? How can it be used appropriately? What are its effects?

The speakers will address the following question from within their areas of interest and expertise: "When and how do I confess to others in a way that promotes spiritual formation?"

Speakers:
Mr. Andy Comiskey, Pastor and Director, Desert Stream Ministries
Ms. Ruth Haley Barton, Co-founder and President, The Transforming Center
Rev. Charles Edgar III, Rector, St. Mark's Episcopal Church
Rev. Kristin Frederich, Pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Cambria, WI

Moderated by:
Dr. Sarah Borden, assistant professor, Philosophy, Wheaton College
