Spring Break Staycation

Spring Break Staycation was held in the spring of 2014.  During this time children enjoyed age-appropriate activities including storytime, scavenger hunts, open gym, open pool, movies, and visual arts and music workshops.

Most activities were offered at no cost. Childcare was not provided, so parents and other caregivers were able to enjoy activities with children.

  • Easter Readings
    Ages 12 and under
    Spring and Easter are just around the corner. Raise winter spirits and thaw frozen imaginations with 30-minute stories that vary daily.

  • Sketching With Rouault
    Ages 12 and under.
    How’s your skill with a sketch pad? Find a comfortable spot in the gallery to emulate the featured artwork of 19th-century, French expressionist Georges Rouault. Sketching materials provided.

  • History Scavenger Hunt
    Ages 12 and under.
    Travel through time with this American expedition to 1492. Search the museum to find clues and rare artifacts. Successful explorers claim a prize for their daring!

 

Community School of the Arts

  • Early Childhood Music Class “Here We Go!”
    9:30-10:15 in Pierce 108
    Ages 2-4 yrs, with parent
    Ann Storm, CSA Early Childhood Faculty
    FREE-no registration necessary. Hop on the train, get in the car, board the plane—Here We Go! This class focuses on transportation, a favorite topic for children who are on the go, go, go!

  • Visual Art Workshop “Kinetic Sculptures”
    10:30-11:15 in Pierce Commons​
    Ages 3-12, with parent
    Jennifer Nagle, CSA Visual Art Faculty
    FREE-no registration necessary. Create an ever changing sculpture that twists and turns colors and shapes. This workshop teaches children how to make art move!

Sports & Recreation Complex

The Sports & Recreation Complex (SRC) was available at a discounted rate during the Spring Break Staycation.  

  • Open Gym
    Children of all ages (with adult) may play with balls and jumpropes in the recreation gym.
     
  • Open Pool
    The Wheaton College Pool is a competition pool suitable for children five and older.  Parental supervision required for all children using the pool.
     
  • Open Wall

    The Wheaton College Climbing Wall will be open on Wednesday, April 2.  Climbing Wall is suitable for children over the age of six.  

 

The Marion E. Wade Center

  • Scavenger Hunt
    The Wade Center offered a museum scavenger hunt to families.  Different scavenger hunts are available for both pre-schoolers and older children.  
     
  • Drama for Children
    The Wheaton College Tolkien Society performed a short drama for children in The Wade Center classroom.
