English Proficiency

If English is not your native language, you must demonstrate proficiency by submitting scores from either the TOEFL exam or IELTS exam. The following requirements apply to all international students and U.S. permanent residents whose native language is not English. Applicants who do not meet minimum English proficiency requirements will not be admitted.

IELTS

The IELTS >> test for English can be submitted instead of the TOEFL test. Score Range 6.5 to 9

TOEFL

Intercultural Studies TESOL applicants should meet a minimum score of 600 for the paper based test, 250 for the computer based test, and 100 for the internet-based test.

If English is not your native language, you must demonstrate proficiency by submitting scores from either the TOEFL exam or IELTS exam. Scores must not be more than two years old.

Exceptions will be made if:

1. You are a citizen of Australia, Canada, Great Britain, New Zealand or the British West Indies, and are a native speaker of English.

2. You have studied in one of the countries mentioned above, or in the U.S. within the past three years and have a good academic record at the school attended.

 

Applicants who are exempted from the TOEFL, TSE and TWE may be required to take the GRE.

If you are an International Student applying to the Ph.D. or Psy.D. program you must complete both the GRE and the TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language) >>. International Student applicants to master's programs may take the TOEFL in place of the GRE.

*Internationals, or legal residents with a green card, who apply for INTT and have a master's degree earned in a foreign country must submit a TOEFL score—they are not exempt from the TOEFL just because they have an MA from their home country. They are only exempt from submitting a TOEFL (or GRE) score if they have earned the master's degree in the USA.
