M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (60 hours) Admission Requirements

Requirements for All Students

  1. Application Deadline March 1.
  2. Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  3. GPA 3.0 minimum.
  4. Four Prerequisites, see below.
  5. GRE General Test. Institution Code 1905.
  6. Official Transcripts from all schools that ever granted you college credit, even just one credit.
    • E-transcripts preferred. They are the fastest and most reliable method of delivery. Have them addressed to nancy.crane@wheaton.edu.
    • Mail hard copies to Wheaton College, ATTN: GRADUATE ADMISSIONS, Wheaton, IL 60187. 
  7. Application Form.
  8. Four Recommendation Forms, not letters.
    • Academic.
    • Pastoral (or other Christian leader).
    • Professional.
      • Option if you do not have an employer: Someone with whom you had a supervisor-employee relationship, e.g., in a ministry, internship, or missions-trip context.
    • Mental Health Professional.
      • Can be submitted by a psychology professor or a mental health practitioner who preferably has a doctorate and who preferably has not served as your therapist.
    • Letters accepted as supplements to Recommendation Forms.
  9. Three Essays.
  10. Chronological Resume.
  11. Signed Statement of Faith, Community Covenant, and Statement of Veracity.
  12. Application Processing Fee US $30, non-refundable.
  13. An interview (in-person, video, or phone call) with the Faculty Program Director may be required.


Prerequisites (4 courses, 12 semester hours)

These courses can have different names at other schools.

  1. General Psychology.
  2. Abnormal Psychology.
  3. Research Methods or Statistics.
  4. Either Human Development or Theories of Personality.
