What Parents Need to Do

2013-2014

Important: As of 2012-2013, the federal government has made changes in how families are to provide tax information to financial aid offices. We will be providing more information on this process in the next several months.

  1. Complete the parent section of the FAFSA and sign with the PIN >>. You can file the FAFSA as early as January 1, 2013. However, we suggest you file your 2012 tax return electronically, wait several weeks for it to be processed and then complete the FAFSA. On the FAFSA, if you are eligible, you can choose to have your tax data retrieved electronically from the IRS (available as of February 1). If you do not have your completed tax information available in time to meet the February 15 priority deadline, you may use estimates to file the FAFSA and correct the information once available.

Important: Proofread your personal data carefully. Errors, particularly on social security numbers, can lead to processing delays and complications.
  2. Together with your student complete the Wheaton College Financial Aid Application online.
  3. If selected for verification (your student will be notified), submit verification documents as requested.
  4. If additional funds are needed, check with the financial aid counselor about obtaining supplemental loans.
