Cognos TM1 Unavailable During Updates

Effective Date: November 18, 2016

From 5:30 to 11:30 PM on November 18, we will install an update to the Cognos TM1 server. During this time, Cognos TM1 will be unavailable.

This necessary update will repair a bug with Cognos security certificates.

Impact on College Community

Cognos TM1 will not be available from 5:30 to 11:30 PM on November 18 while we perform the update.

New Web Interface for ThunderCloud Storage

Effective Date: December 1, 2016

On December 1, you will have the option of using an updated web interface for ThunderCloud Storage, powered by Box. This updated interface provides tools for managing clutter and faster upload times.

  • Easier navigation to Favorites, Messages, and more

Impact on College Community

Beginning on December 1, you will have the option to switch to the new interface when you sign in at wheaton.box.com.

When you sign in, you will see a message that reads, "Launch the new Box Experience: Work smarter and faster with the all new Box experience." If you would like to start using the new web interface, select "Try It Out."

Changes in Connections to Banner Database

On November 20, we will update how several programs associated with Banner connect to the database. This is in preparation for a Banner upgrade that will take place over Thanksgiving break.

This will prepare Banner-related programs for a critical update that will take place over Thanksgiving break.

Impact on College Community

We will update these Banner connections during the normal maintenance window on November 20 from 12 to 2 AM. During this time, Banner-related programs and databases will not be available. Affected departments have already been contacted via email.

Banner-Related Services Unavailable During Oracle Database Update

Effective Dates: November 23-26, 2016

We will perform an Oracle database upgrade from 5 PM on November 23 to 7 AM on November 26. During this upgrade, most Banner-related programs will be unavailable. This includes Banner INB, Banner SSB, Access databases, Banner ODS, Cognos, Touchnet, Banner-related Perceptive Content scanning, and others.

Key Features and Benefits

This will update the Oracle database to version 11.2.0.4 . This version includes:

  • Security features such as data redaction
  • Support for database consolidation
  • Diagnostic data collection
  • Other bug and security fixes

Impact on College Community

Banner-related programs will be unavailable from 5 PM on Wednesday November 23 until 7 AM on Saturday November 26. During this time, we will perform the database upgrade.

Departmental point-persons for Banner-related notifications will receive further information on testing functionality prior to the upgrade.

Updates to Campus Firewall

On November 10, we will update portions of the campus firewall. This is a standard update to keep our network secure.

This update includes various bug and security fixes as well as some feature enhancements.

Impact on College Community

  • This update will take place on November 10 from 1 to 2 AM.
  • No action is required for this update, and you should not notice any changes once it is complete.
