Migration of iFolders to ThunderCloud Storage

Academic and Institutional Technology is committed to providing secure and reliable storage for Wheaton College data. As part of this commitment, we are removing outdated or redundant data storage services and moving eligible data into ThunderCloud Storage. We ask all employees who currently use iFolder to move their data into ThunderCloud Storage by Friday, December 11 at 5 PM. iFolder will be retired at that time, and any files saved in iFolder will not be backed up.

Key Benefits and Features

ThunderCloud Storage has a number of advantages over iFolder:

  • Unlimited Storage – No more storage quotas.
  • Secure mobile access to files.
  • Ability to share folders and files.

Impact on College Community

Employees who are currently using iFolder will need to move their files by Friday, December 11 at 5 PM to ensure uninterrupted access. iFolder will be retired at that time, and any files saved in iFolder will not be backed up. Phone System Update

Effective Date: October 18, 2015

The phone system will be updated on Sunday, October 18 from 10:00 to 11:00 PM. This update will fix firmware bugs with campus phones.

During the update, phones will be out of service from five to ten minutes.

  • Brings phones up to date with bug fixes

Impact on College Community

Phones will be out of service for five to ten minutes on Sunday, October 18. This outage will occur between 10:00 and 11:00 PM.

Print Provider Installation

On October 15, Paper Cut Print Provider will be installed College-owned employee computers. This installation will allow the College to better assess printing costs and printer usage.

  • Collects data about printer usage
  • Allows more in-depth analysis of printing costs

Impact on College Community

Paper Cut Print Provider will be installed automatically on College-owned employee computers beginning October 15. The installation is expected to be non-disruptive.

Faculty and staff who are able to charge multiple accounts will be asked to select which account to charge even when printing to local printers. This is a dummy charge is for tracking purposes, and is marked as $0.00.

As part of this commitment, we are removing outdated or redundant data storage services and moving eligible data into ThunderCloud Storage. We ask all employees who currently use Network Home Directories to move their data into ThunderCloud Storage by Friday, October 23. 

Follow these directions to complete this process (you may be asked to sign in). The instructions also include information on moving iFolder data into ThunderCloud storage. Personal or other non-College use is not permitted for ThunderCloud Storage.

Key Benefits and Features

ThunderCloud Storage has a number of advantages over Network Home Directories:

  • Unlimited Storage – No more storage quotas.
  • Online access from a web browser.
  • Secure access to files from off campus, even without a VPN.
  • Ability to share folders and files.

Impact on College Community

Employees who are currently using Network Home Directories will need to move their files by Friday, October 23 to ensure uninterrupted access. Follow these directions to move your files to ThunderCloud Storage (you may be asked to sign in). Printer Maintenance Requests

Previously, service requests for College-owned printers and copiers were directed to the Purchasing department. These requests should now be directed to Academic and Institutional Technology.

Once we receive a request, we will work to answer it as quickly as possible.
