On August 1, 2015, we're expanding Wheaton College's lynda.com subscription as part of our initiative to make this resource available to all students, faculty, and staff. This new subscription allows for broad access and availability for the college community, and will replace Buswell Library's subscription. Those who previously subscribed through the library will have early access starting on July 1.

Key Benefits and Features

  • lynda.com provides over 3,500 video tutorial courses from industry experts on interpersonal, creative, professional, and technical skills.
  • Your unlimited access to lynda.com's complete library of training materials will continue.
  • The new subscription does not require weekly renewal; your account will be available at any time.

Impact on College Community

If you used lynda.com through Buswell Library, you will need to transfer your playlists and history to a Wheaton subscription in order to access them after June 30. When you log in for the first time using your Wheaton email address and password, follow these instructions to migrate your information (you may be asked to sign in).

lynda.com will be accessible to all students, faculty, and staff on August 1.

Effective Date: Summer 2015

We are updating our Wheaton campus phone system this summer, which includes a full factory reboot of all campus phones. One of our technicians will come by your office this summer to reboot your phone.

Key Benefits and Features

This update will reconnect each phone to the campus directory so all extensions are listed correctly. It will also restore directory access to all phones.

Impact on the College Community

This update should be minimally disruptive. The reboot takes approximately one minute, and you do not have to be present. Our technician will work with your department’s office coordinator to be let into offices on a particular day. For departments that do not have an office coordinator, Public Safety will grant access to offices.

In most cases, you will not lose any settings on your phone. However, if you have customized your phone’s ringtone, the ringtone will revert back to the default option. If you have a color-screen phone, your desktop background will also revert back to the original blue background. You can customize these features to match your preference by pressing the Settings button on your phone and selecting your desired option for ringtone and screen background.

Classroom Response System Upgrade

Effective Date: June 6, 2015

The classroom student response system, also known as clickers, will be upgraded to a new cloud-based service on June 6. 

This upgrade will allow faculty the option to log in from anywhere to use the system or develop presentation materials. Students will be able use a mobile device or laptop to respond as well as a dedicated hardware clicker. 

Key Benefits and Features

  • Instructors can login from anywhere, rather than only at a specific workstation or classroom.
  • Students may participate using any web-enabled device, including iOS and Android mobile phones.
  • Fuller integration with our learning management system (Blackboard), including auto-creation of participant lists, and interactive quiz or survey results loaded into the grade center.
  • Student can self-register outside of class and may purchase either a dedicated hardware clicker or a or 1- 4 year license to use their mobile device or laptop.
  • Responses are FERPA-compliant for student data security and privacy.

Turning Technologies, the manufacturer of the response system, is offering an Instructor’s Kit that includes a hardware clicker, a receiver, and a pocket guide at no additional cost for a limited time.

Impact on the College Community
