Retiring File Server

Effective Date: August 9, 2017

As part of our project to replace an outdated and inflexible system, we will permanently retire the Novell server Ezra on August 9.

Key Features and Benefits

The outdated system will be replaced by ThunderCloud Storage group shares. More information about the features and benefits of group shares can be found here.

Impact on College Community

We will assist departments in replacing the existing network shared drive.

Phone System to Allow Custom Caller ID

Effective Date: August 11, 2017

On August 11, we will perform an upgrade on our campus VoIP System. This upgrade will allow you to customize your user name displayed in Caller ID. During the upgrade, phone services will be intermittently unavailable.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Provides security-related patches and bug fixes.
  • Implements feature enhancements, such as the ability to customize your user name that displays in Caller ID. This way, you can replace your formal name with your preferred name.

Impact on College Community

On August 11 from 10 to 11:30 PM, the campus phone system and voicemail services will be intermittently unavailable.

Degree Works Upgrade

Effective Date: July 28, 2017

From July 28 through July 30, we will perform an upgrade of Degree Works, our user-friendly degree-tracking application for students. This upgrade will begin at 5 PM on July 28 and end by 5 PM on July 30. During this time, Degree Works will be unavailable.

Key Benefits and Features

  • Provides increased stability and security for our databases.
  • Replaces outdated equipment and installs the recommended version of our degree-tracking application.

Impact on College Community

Starting July 27 at 5 PM, Degree Works will be completely unavailable until July 30 at 5 PM.

Retiring Windows Media Streaming Server

As part of our project to replace an outdated and inflexible system, we will permanently retire our Windows Media Streaming Server Eve on July 20.

Key Features and Benefits

The outdated system will be replaced by ThunderCloud Storage as part of our ongoing project to reduce the number of servers and services used for media content.

Impact on College Community

We will assist departments who wish to distribute media content through ThunderCloud Storage.

Installation of Phones in Conference and Seminar Rooms

Beginning in May, we will install phones in every conference and seminar room on campus.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Provides an easy way to do audio conferencing
  • Allows for emergency notifications in rooms that do not currently have phones

Impact on College Community

Beginning in April, we will contact departments who own or supervise a conference or seminar room to discuss the installation of the phone(s).

The phone model we are providing is the Cisco 7811, which includes a built-in speakerphone that can be used for audio conferencing. Departments can purchase a different model of phone for us to install if they would like.
