About Lars Jacobson

Lars Jacobson was born June 4, 1965 and raised in northern New Jersey. He graduated from Montville Township High School in 1983, going on to attend Wheaton College where he earned a bachelor of arts in communication and his commission as a second lieutenant of Signal in 1987. He attended the Signal Officer Basic Course in 1988, then served the remainder of his active duty tour as a signal platoon leader in the 1st Signal Battalion, Kaiserslautern, Germany. Since 1991, he has served as a traditional drilling member of the Illinois Army National Guard in various positions, including commander of HHD, 404th Chemical Brigade, S6 (communications officer) for the 44th Chemical Battalion and the 404th Chemical Brigade, S3 (operations and training officer) for the 133rd Signal Battalion, and commander of the Special Troops Battalion, 108th Sustainment Brigade. He deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2008-2009, where he mentored a training unit in the Afghan National Army. Presently he serves as the acting G6 for Joint Forces Headquarters, Illinois. He has served as full-time cadre with the Rolling Thunder Battalion as a contracted instructor since 2005 and is presently the enrollment officer and military history instructor.

Lars lives in Sycamore, Illinois with his wife Laurie and three mostly grown children: Deborah (born 1989), Rebecca (born 1990), and Benjamin (born 1992). He enjoys reading (history, mostly) fishing and is active in his local church, where he leads the early morning worship service.
