TESOL - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

TESOL

Our vision is to develop specialists in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages who demonstrate a high level of professionalism as the foundation of cross-cultural work.

What is TESOL at Wheaton?

Professionalism: A solid background in the field of TESOL is established through courses such as Theoretical Foundations of TESOL Methodology, Intercultural Communication, Phonology, and Descriptive English Grammar.

Practicality: Course work covers specialized areas of TESOL such as testing, curriculum development, speaking and listening, and reading and composition that apply directly to the classroom.

Culture: The program is located in a multicultural metropolitan area, where there are many opportunities to gain teaching experience in a variety of ESL contexts in the Chicago area and overseas.

The Big Picture: The current geopolitical situation has led to remarkable opportunities for professional English language teachers. The TESOL program at Wheaton College seeks to meet this need by providing comprehensive, practical teacher education.
