The Certificate in Urban Missions is available only as a component of one of two MA degree programs. You may take the certificate as part of the MA in Intercultural Studies. Graduates will be prepared for ministry in global contexts as they exist in urban centers from diaspora communities in North America to urban setting in international contexts.
Alternately, you may also choose to take the certificate as part of the MA in Evangelism and Leadership. Graduates will be prepared for ministry in ethnic contexts more closely focused on North American urban settings.
The certificate itself is 24 of the 40 hours for the degree programs, and is comprised of an interdisciplinary subset of required and elective courses drawing on expertise across a range of disciplines at Wheaton College (from Urban Studies to Business/Economics to International Relations). The required intercultural studies courses focus on contextualization and communication as foundational for successful urban service. Cross-disciplinary electives, chosen in consultation with the advisor, will enable specialized focus on urban issues of particular significance for each student.
