Illinois Certification Tests for 2012-2013 (Note changes in IL Test of Basic Skills)
The Illinois Basic Skills test has been slightly expanded and is now know as the Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP). A major change is the allowance of a composite score of 22 on the ACT or 1030 on the SAT in lieu of the new Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP). See our News and Announcements for further details.
The second and third Illinois Certification Tests (subject matter and Assessment of Professional Teaching) are scheduled for Sept. 8, 2012, Nov. 10, 2012, Feb. 9, 2013 and April 13, 2013. For those near Illinois over the summer, June 1, 2013 and July 6, 2013 are two additional test dates. Late fees apply with six weeks of the test dates, so plan ahead. Some subject-matter tests can be taken at remote locations at other times, namely Elementary/Middle Grades, English/Language Arts, and Mathematics.
See below for the timetable as to when these tests are required for the Wheaton Teacher Education Program (WheTEP).
You may register on line at the Illinois Certification Testing Service >> or by phone (800) 239-8107.

The TAP (Test of Academic Proficiency, formerly known as Basic Skills) or its ACT/SAT equivalent must be passed prior to acceptance into the Wheaton Teacher Education Program (WheTEP). The Subject-Matter Knowledge exam must be passed prior to student teaching. The Assessment of Professional Teaching must be passed prior to certification and is typically taken during one's final semester at Wheaton.
