MA in Teaching (MAT), Elementary Education Certification
Change a Life. Change the World.
The MA in Teaching...
- prepares educators to integrate faith and learning,
- develops producers as well as consumers of classroom research through internship and induction-year experience, and
- allows for greater depth in one's discipline.
These combined elements unite theory and practice to create Christian educators who are equipped for tomorrow's classrooms. The program is ideal for those planning to teach in public, private, and Christian schools or for those considering international ministry in a Christian context. Even if you plan to teach in another state, completing an Illinois teaching certificate will make the process of obtaining a teaching license in another state much easier.
The purpose of the program is to prepare future educators who have a strong liberal arts foundation and substantial knowledge in one academic discipline. Elementary Education can be combined with any liberal arts major. The curriculum incorporates NCATE's >> criteria for effective teacher preparation programs, which provides integration of content-area study with sound pedagogical practice.
Wheaton College is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) >> and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) >>.
