Evan B. Howard (Ph. D., Graduate Theological Union) founded and directs the Spirituality Shoppe, an evangelical center for the study of Christian spirituality.This resource center is involved in research projects, offers classes, retreats, seminars and workshops, publishes a regular newsletter, and sponsors the annual meeting of the Evangelical Scholars in Christian Spirituality. Dr. Howard is a lecturer in philosophy and religion at Mesa State College in Montrose, Colorado. Evan and his wife, Cheri, live in rural Colorado where they experiment with semi-monastic living. He is the author of many articles and books, including Praying the Scriptures: A Field Guide for Your Spiritual Journey, Affirming the Touch of God: A Psychological and Philosophical Exploration of Christian Discernment, and The Brazos Introduction to Christian Spirituality.

Richard Osmer is Princeton Theological Seminary’s Thomas W. Synnott Professor of Christian Education. He holds a M.Div. from Yale University and a Ph.D. from Emory University. His interests include practical theology, the teaching ministry of congregations, and interdisciplinary thinking. His courses cover educational psychology and practical theology, children’s literature in Christian moral education, confirmation and catechism, and the social functions of religion, ethics, and education in theories of modernity and postmodernity. An ordained Presbyterian minister, he chairs the Committee to Write New Catechisms for the Presbyterian Church (USA). His major publications include A Teachable Spirit: Recovering the Teaching Office of the Church (Westminster John Knox Press, 1990); Confirmation: Presbyterian Practices in Ecumenical Perspective (Geneva Press, 1996); The Teaching Ministry of Congregations (Westminster John Knox Press, 2005), and Practical Theology: An Introduction (Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, 2008).
